Tasked with overseeing the region’s roadways, traffic management, public transit and regional planning, the RTC has a lot on its plate! Check out a few of the agency’s 2024 accomplishments to see how the RTC worked hard last year to improve quality of life in Southern Nevada by keeping the community connected safely and efficiently!
Major Roadway Improvements: The RTC broke ground on a major improvement project on Maryland Parkway. The Maryland Parkway Bus Rapid Transit project includes new pavement, wider sidewalks, new transit shelters with more shade, and faster, more frequent service.
Mobility Training on the Go: We trained more than 250 individuals, including seniors and those with disabilities, to use transit with confidence by taking our mobility training vehicle directly into the community.
Transit Safety: The RTC increased its security budget to onboard 300 armed officers and added new technologies to detect firearms at transit facilities; we provided panic buttons for transit operators for incidents off the bus; camera systems were enhanced with greater surveillance capabilities; and we added more shelters with nighttime lighting – all to improve safety and enhance response times throughout our transit system.
Traffic Management: Last year, the RTC modernized its traffic signal network; launched an upgrade of its traffic camera system that informs the media and the public of traffic incidences, delays and detours; replaced 12 miles of damaged fiber optic cable; and replaced signal detection at more than 50 intersections, among many other enhancements – all designed to keep traffic moving smoothly!
Bike Safety & Advocacy: Last year, the RTC added more electric bikes and expanded the Bike Share system to East Las Vegas, providing access to cycling in an underserved area of the city.
